Hey Y'all!! Oh. My. Goodness!! I tried to get this post up on Friday, but my computer kept updating. Does anyone else keep putting off updating their computer until it has hours worth to do? No? Just me? Oh well. Happy Monday! I hope y'all had a fabulous weekend. We had a quiet one. The teen went to a friend's house and the hubby and I went out to a nice dinner. And slept! This time of year wears me out. Not only does the teen have a million things to do and a million places to be, the weather kills me. In one week we can have 30's, 80's, sun, tropical storms, wind...all leading up to everything about to be covered in an inch of pollen.
But on to today's mani! I have something I'm calling an Ombre Gradient Skittle:
I Used:
China Glaze: One Track Mind (a deep cobalt blue crème)
Orly- Tiara (small silver glitter in a clear base)
Finger Paints- Ho Ho Happy Holidays (micro silver and light blue glitter in a clear base)
Icing- Sapphire (a medium blue micro glitter in a clear base)
China Glaze- Feeling Twinkly (a dark blue glitter in a clear base)
Make Up Sponge
To start this mani, I painted two coats of China Glaze One Track Mind, a deep cobalt blue crème. Then using a make up sponge, I sponged on the glitter polishes. They are:
Pinky: Orly Tiara, a silver glitter
Ring Finger: Finger Paints Ho Ho Happy Holidays, a silver and light blue glitter
Middle Finger: Icing Sapphire, a medium blue glitter
Index Finger: China Glaze, Feeling Twinkly, a dark blue glitter
Thumb: all the above
When sponging on the glitter, start about three quarters of the way down your nail. Then go back and sponge on just the tip of your nail to give you a more concentrated glitter. For the thumb, paint stripes of the polish on the make up sponge and dab on your nail. It is really important to use a sponge at least for your thumb...the sponge will soak up the excess clear polish leaving you a more concentrated glitter. I did two coats on my thumb. Then just add the top coat.
I hope you have a fabulous day! Happy Polishing!!

Christmas Gradient
Hi Everyone! I have another holiday design for you today, a Christmas Gradient! Of course, you could use this technique for any color combination. First up, my finished product:
I Used:
Pure Ice- Jaguar (pale, shimmery gold)
Color Club- Ho-Ho-Holly (green with gold and green shimmer)
Icing- Red-y or Not Here I Am (red glitter in a pale red jelly)
Make-up Sponges
There are three ways to do gradient, or ombre, nails (that I know of ;-)). The first way is to pick a color then paint each nail a different shade, lighter to darker. The second way I've shown you here. And lastly, the way I did this manicure.
I started with two coats of Pure Ice Jaguar since it was the lightest color. Once that dried completely I painted a make-up sponge with the three colors in the order I wanted them to appear on my nails:
Just keep applying the polish to the make-up sponge and dabbing it on your nails until you get the desired effect. I did have a hard time getting the red polish how I wanted it, so I ended up painting just the very tip with the Icing polish.
Lastly, I applied two coats of top coat to give it a smooth finish. I hope y'all enjoy this design. I love how it turned it out. But now I kind of wished I had waited to do this on Christmas Eve. Oh well. Happy Polishing!!

Holiday Gradient (Hanakkuh or Christmas)
Good morning Everyone!! Did you have a fabulous weekend and/or holiday?? I think I gained 10 pounds over Thanksgiving! Who's bright idea was it to have cheesecake at Thanksgiving?? Not to mention the gravy, mashed potatoes and rolls...ugh!! Well, at least it was all delicious! But I missed y'all! And I missed doing my nails every other day. But I'm back now and have a fabulous Holiday manicure for you.
I Used:
China Glaze- Frostbite (bright metallic blue)
Sinful Colors- Heavy Metal (sparkly silver)
Make Up Sponges
There are three ways to do a gradient, or ombre, nail design. The first is to select a color, and paint each nail a different shade of that color on each nail. The second is to paint the polish on a sponge and dab it on your nails (I have one like that coming up, I will put the link here when it's done). And the last way is the way I did this manicure (see tutorial here).
I love how this manicure turned out! It reminds me of winter, Christmas, Hanukkah, the first snow...just everything to do with this time of year! I hope y'all enjoy it too!! Happy Polishing!!

Galaxy/Breast Cancer Remembrance (& Tutorial)
Hi Everyone! As y'all know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and I have planned a few nail designs. For my first design, I wanted to honor two fabulous friends. One was my best friend through jr. high, high school, etc. through today and the other is my bestie today. Both of these wonderful women lost their beautiful mothers to breast cancer and I wanted a way to remember them. So here is my design: two pink stars shining bright in our galaxy in remembrance of these great moms.
I Used:
China Glaze- Liquid Leather
China Glaze- White on White
Finger Paints- Plum Startled
Sinful Colors- Why Not
Rimmel- Wild Orchid
Sally Girl- very pale pink
China Glaze- Pink Voltage
Orly- Shine On Crazy Diamond
Make up sponges
Medium Liner Brush (see tip on brush info)
Dotting Tool (see tip on making your own dotting tool)
The fun thing about galaxies is they don't have to be perfect, so don't worry- you can do this. Start with two coats of black polish and let that dry completely before starting the next step. If it is still wet, the black polish will come off.
Then you need sponges. I use cheap make-up sponges from the dollar store. Cut them up into uneven pieces and wet them. This will make them expand and give you a better effect. Start by sponging white polish where you want the galaxy to be placed. This will help it stand out against the black. Be sure to place the galaxy in a different spot for each nail. When sponging on the white polish make it just a bit smaller than you want the final galaxy to be to help blend it in. Then going from your darkest polish to the lightest.
Here are a few tips to help with your galaxy:
1. Turn the sponge as you dab to help give your galaxy a varied look.
2. Avoid hard edges, blend the colors into each other and into the black.
3. Try to avoid covering your entire nail with the galaxy. You want some of the black to show through, even if it's only a little.
4. If you have sponged over too much of your nail, or don't like an area, sponge over it with black nail polish.
5. Have fun with it!! There is no right answer, go with the look you like!
For the ring finger stars, I used a medium length liner brush (see link above for information on brushes) and China Glaze's Pink Voltage. Then using the liner brush, just make four intersecting lines (see pictures below). I made two stars for the two women I know. You may make as many as you like. Or if you don't know anyone who has/had breast cancer, you could make one large star for all the women battling this disease.
For the ribbon on my thumb, again I used the medium liner and Pink Voltage. When loading your brush with polish, cover the entire length of it. Then lay the brush down on your thumb diagonally. Do this again making a large X. Using either a dotting tool or a short, thin bristled brush, make a small arch to make the loop of the ribbon.
Using the dotting tool and white polish, make random dots (or stars) in various sizes all over your nails. Then go over your entire nail with a holographic glitter to add to the star effect. Just go easy on the glitter (yes, I said go easy on the glitter-hard to believe I know!). Don't forget the top coat!
And more importantly, don't forget regular self exams and yearly mammograms! Happy Polishing!!

Gradient / Ombre
Gradient, or ombre nails are extremely popular right now and very easy to do. For this manicure you"ll need two nail polishes and sponges. I use cheap make-up sponges that I cut into irregular shapes. This helps to give your manicure a more random look.
Of course you may use any color you want; these are the polishes I used:
Orly Preamp
Orly Mysterious Curse
Start with two coats of polish
Using the make-up sponges, dab on the second color 3/4 of the way on your nail, starting with the tip of your nail.
Then, sponge the second color 1/2 way up your nail from the tip.
Starting at the tip, sponge the nail polish 1/4 of the way.
Add a top coat and you're done!
